Drop net
Description
A drop net is made of 2 hoops joined by a cylindrical or cone-shaped net bag.
Drop nets are not the same as hoop nets and regulations vary.
Drop nets do not need to be registered.

Maximum hoop diameter: 107 cm
Maximum depth: 92 cm
Maximum numbers permitted
Maximum permitted: 3 drop nets per person.
Marking
Drop nets have different marking requirements depending on where you are fishing.
Drop nets set from the shore do not need a tag if the person responsible is in attendance at all times.
Marine waters
- 1 white buoy, 4 litres in volume
- 1 tag with name and address of the owner if left unattended
Inland waters
- 1 white buoy, 2 litres in volume
- 1 tag with name and address of the owner if left unattended

Restrictions
Restrictions exist at the Port MacDonnell Breakwater Closure.
If you are using (up to 3) drop nets to catch rock lobster, you are not allowed to use any fishing gear other than a fishing rod or handline.
Rules apply for use with other fishing gear.
