Trees on Farms Initiative

In March 2022, the Government of South Australia committed to developing the Trees on Farms Initiative.

This opportunity strengthens the state's reputation as a leader in sustainable forestry. It will grow the on-farm plantation sector, and help regions adapt to climate change.

The initiative is supported by Australian Government funding and aligned with the national forest industries plan – Growing a better Australia: A billion trees for jobs and growth.

Outcomes

The Trees on Farms Initiative has anticipated outcomes in 6 key areas:

  1. increased wood fibre supply to regional processors
  2. diversified farm income, including from carbon markets
  3. regional investment by the forestry industry in plantation and processing capacity
  4. employment opportunities and support for regional communities
  5. investment in forestry research
  6. partnerships within the forest industry supply chain, including between landholders and companies.

Farm-based forestry resources

This initiative accelerates landholder and industry profits through promoting on-farm plantations. It also encourages Aboriginal participation through sustainable harvesting of forest products. Learn about:
