Sheep and Goat eID Implementation Essential Equipment and Infrastructure Rebate (saleyards and processors)

Rebate details

As part of the national transition to electronic identification (eID) for sheep and goats, a rebate is available to assist saleyards and processors set up the essential equipment and infrastructure required to enable them to scan and meet their regulatory obligations under the National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) for recording and reporting individual sheep and farmed goat movements.

The rebate will apply to eligible purchases made on or after 8 June 2023.

Amounts

Eligible saleyards and processors can apply for a 75% rebate on the total cost of essential equipment (including hardware and software) and infrastructure to meet their reporting and recording obligations for the movement of sheep and farmed goats.

Quantity limits on the essential equipment, software and infrastructure have been set based on the size of the eligible saleyard or processor operations.

If an applicant requires equipment or infrastructure above or different to the quantity limits set out in the guidelines, the applicant must submit a needs analysis to PIRSA.GrantsEnquiries@sa.gov.au prior to submitting an application. It is recommended to have the needs analysis assessed prior to purchasing additional infrastructure or equipment.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the rebate, saleyards and processors must have an active South Australian saleyard or processor property identification code (PIC) and have an active NLIS database account.

Saleyards and processors must:

  • be a currently operating saleyard or processor that receives sheep or farmed goats for sale or processing
  • be based in South Australia
  • hold an active Australian Business Number (ABN) and be registered for GST
  • be a legal entity capable of entering into a funding agreement with the Minister
  • not have received funding from another South Australian or Australian Government program for the same activities
  • be installing the essential infrastructure and equipment at saleyards or processing facilities located in South Australia.

Supporting documents

Download and complete the acquittal form (PDF 696.2 KB).

You will need to provide with your application:

  • a list of the essential infrastructure and equipment (including hardware and software) that has been purchased
  • itemised purchase cost for each essential infrastructure and equipment
  • invoices and evidence of payment.

Any of the following will be accepted as evidence of payment:

  • a supplier statement or invoice showing a zero balance
  • a bank statement including account details showing payment of the invoice
  • bank lodgement receipt outlining payment details that correlate to the invoice – must include the payee details (account name or number), the invoice number or supplier name, the amount and the date.

Online application process

  1. Open the rebate application form on the myPIRSA portal.
  2. Login or register for myPIRSA.
  3. Select 'Launch service' (blue button).
  4. Click 'submit' (blue button).
  5. Select 'Grant name' approved service (green and white button).
  6. Provide all requested information.
  7. Submit your application.

You will receive a receipt number on screen and via email after submitting the form .

Applications will be assessed by PIRSA in the order they are received, and outcomes will be advised in approximately 4 weeks if all of the required information has been provided.
