Alkaloid poppy production in South Australia

South Australia has a regulatory framework in place that enables the alkaloid poppy industry to operate.

The framework provides for licensed commercial cultivation and processing of poppies while ensuring effective regulatory controls are in place to manage the risks.

The alkaloid poppy industry is not currently active in South Australia as there are no poppy processors licensed under South Australia’s Controlled Substances Act 1984 to contract growers in South Australia.

This webpage will be updated when the industry is active, and growers are able to contact a licensed processor to register their interest in obtaining a contract to grow poppies for the licensed processor.
