Russian wheat aphid action threshold calculator

This calculator helps farmers and agronomists determine whether to treat for Russian wheat aphid – it is based on the impact to crop yield and cost.

The calculator indicates if the economic injury level is likely to be exceeded between GS30 (start of stem elongation) and GS50 (start of head emergence). It therefore indicates if control of Russian wheat aphid should be actioned. This threshold can be applied to winter and spring cereal varieties.

A dataset complied during the GRDC investment UOA1805-018RTX 'Russian wheat aphid risk assessment' supported development of this calculator.

How to use the calculator

Before using the calculator, please read the instructions:

  1. Basis of the threshold
  2. Determining the action threshold
  3. Monitoring at GS30 (start of stem elongation)
  4. Estimating time between GS30 and GS50
