Minimising losses from weeds in broadacre crops and permanent pasture

April 2021 to April 2023

In permanent pasture, palatable plants are grazed preferentially, promoting growth of unpalatable invasive grasses.

Actions include:

  • providing specialised support and training to landholders via weed management workshops
  • creating landholder groups and supporting them to carry out coordinated best practice control
  • developing lasting networks and relationships within groups.

Outcomes:

  • Landholders are enthused. They are working together and achieving results.
  • Weed control continues because groups have a sense of ownership and see results from their efforts.
  • Landholders promote the benefits of coordinated control to their peers.

This program is supported by Enhancing National Pest Animal and Weed Management – Federation Funding Agreement – Environment, Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
