Flood recovery pests and weeds

In response to the major flooding event that affected parts of the Eyre Peninsula and Arid Lands in early 2022, PIRSA and the Eyre Peninsula and SA Arid Lands Landscape Boards, with the support of the State and Commonwealth Governments, will deliver a comprehensive pest and weed management project to support the recovery of flood-affected regions.

Over the next 2 years, initiatives including targeted pest and weed control programs, equipment subsidies, training provision, and workshops will support farmers responding to increased pest and weed incursions.

Summer weed control on the Eyre Peninsula

From November 2023, the first round of summer weed control will target:

  • caltrop
  • fleabane
  • saffron thistle
  • silverleaf nightshade
  • African boxthorn
  • invasive cacti.

Contractors will carry out this work primarily through spot spray and small boom spray methods to target plants in non-crop situations – for example, erosion gullies, fence lines, scrub margins, holding paddocks.

Landholders will be required to provide site access, guidance on the primary locations of weed infestations, and notify contractors of any on-farm health and safety concerns.

Applications

This support to landholders is on a 'first come, first serve' basis until the funding is used. There is no charge to landholders.

Applications close 10 December 2023.
