Milk Cooler

Milk coolers were introduced with the advent of milking machines. Cool water from a cooling tank was pumped through the cooler entering the bottom and leaving through the top. The cooler was located at the end of the milk line in a fly proof room. The milk line in this photo is coming in through the wall on the right hand side and empties into the tank. The farmer kept a watch over the cans during milking and changed them when they were full. The cans from the evening and morning milking were picked before the heat of the day set in.
