Hon. Tim Whetstone
Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development
Tim Whetstone was elected to the South Australian Parliament as the Member for Chaffey in 2010.
He was appointed as the Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development in the Marshall Government, in March 2018.
Between June 2014 until the state election, Tim was the Shadow Minister for Trade and Investment, as well as being the Shadow Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing from 2014 to 2017.
Tim was born in the state's South East at Keith before completing his schooling in Adelaide. He finished a tool maker apprenticeship at General Motors Holden and then went on to develop his own business building and restoring muscle cars and boats.
Tim was a project manager on the Moomba gas fields before moving to the Riverland in 1989 to purchase a citrus property and develop a vineyard on the River Murray.
As the Member for Chaffey, Tim has played a leading role in his community's response to water reform in the Murray-Darling Basin and he continues to advocate for a fair and balanced outcome for the Murray and the river communities.
He is a strong supporter of agricultural research and a robust biosecurity regime in South Australia, particularly in keeping the Riverland fruit fly free.
Tim is an advocate for better health and education services and facilities in regional South Australia, and wants to see improved transport infrastructure to service agricultural and mining sectors.
Tim is the proud father of three children; Nic, Charlotte and Eliza.
