Project details

The Small Plantation Clean-up and Return to Agriculture Subsidy will provide support to landholders who experienced damage to standing plantations during the 2019–20 Cudlee Creek bushfire.

Funding is available for bushfire impacted landholders who are seeking to clear the plantation area and return the land to agriculture. Funding is available for areas larger than 0.5 hectare and less than 100 hectares. The plantation area must be planted with non-native species or be a planted native woodlot.

The total value of this program is $850,000.

Amounts

You can apply for up to 50% of eligible costs associated with felling of plantation timber and conversion to agriculture. Funding of up to $2,000/ha is available. The maximum total funding you can apply for is $150,000.

Subsidy payments will depend on the area (size) of the plantation being removed and returned to agriculture.

Eligibility

The following individuals and businesses who were directly impacted by the Cudlee Creek bushfire in 2019 can apply for this grant:

  • primary production businesses
  • property owners
  • share farmers
  • leaseholders and businesses that operate as trustees of trusts, registered corporations, sole traders, partnerships or private individuals.

To be eligible for this subsidy you must be able to meet the following criteria:

  • the area of standing plantations to be cleaned up and returned to agriculture must have been directly impacted by the 2019-20 Cudlee Creek bushfire
  • the area of bushfire impacted plantation timber must more than 0.5 hectare and no greater than 100 hectares
  • you intend to undertake works to return the land to agricultural production
  • you have not received funding from another South Australian or Australian Government program for the same activities
  • you are unable to claim the cost of eligible activities from an insurer
  • you have met all the terms and conditions of any previous South Australian government funding, grant or concessional loan agreement

Activities

Eligible activities include:

  • felling, pushing, raking, piling and removal of timber
  • removal or alternative uses of the timber including biochar – to assist in returning the land to agriculture
  • management activities including, but not limited to removal, spraying and control of woodlot/plantation seedlings and stumps
  • technical advice relating to:
    • removal or control of woodlot/plantation wildings and seedlings
    • agronomy advice to convert area to agriculture
  • any combination of the following activities related to returning the land to agriculture including but not limited to:
    • land levelling including all costs required to prepare land for seeding including ploughing
    • seeding of pasture or crop (can include fertiliser, seed, lime and seeding costs) including cartage to property
    • costs of spraying to manage weeds
    • internal fencing
    • water infrastructure such as troughs, dams, piping
    • installation or repair of internal fencing directly associated with returning the area to agricultural productivity.
