Dee Nolan is an award-winning journalist and editor who returned home to buy back the family property, start a new food business - and keep writing.
She is the third generation of Nolans to farm Gum Park, near Naracoorte, and her Nolan's Road organic extra virgin olive oil has a committed following among chefs and food writers, including the likes of Nigella Lawson. The company also sells Kabuli chickpeas and Matilda lentils nationally and seasonal organic produce at the Mount Gambier Farmers' Market.
Dee's first book, A Food Lover's Pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, was recognised as one of the Best Culinary Travel Books in the World in the 2010 Gourmand World Cooks Awards, and her second, A Food Lover's Pilgrimage to France, was released in 2014 to great acclaim.
The other "fantastic story" she likes to tell is about premium South Australian produce.
"By premium we don't mean elitist," she said.
"We mean really good quality food and beverages produced as sustainably as possible with the greatest care and expertise.
"That is the food everyone should be eating."
