Darren Thomas is the CEO of Adelaide-based Thomas Foods International, Australia's largest family-owned agribusiness with 2500 employees and a turnover of more than $1.3 billion a year.
He is also a member of the South Australian Government's Economic Development Board and a member, and former chair, of Brand South Australia.
Thomas Foods International is a major supplier of quality meat products, processing close to 120,000 lambs and sheep and 5000 cattle every week at its facilities in three states. It now exports to more than 80 countries across Europe, the Americas and the Middle East.
Darren said food and wine and agriculture built South Australia and the quality of the state's produce remains one of its greatest competitive advantages.
"There is a growing awareness of our food and wine and I believe we are the number one provider of clean, green food in Australia," he said.
"When it comes to exports, people want to know where the food came from, and that gives us a great opportunity to highlight the provenance and safety of our produce.
"Quality food and wine is in our DNA."
