Mesh net registration - Lake George
You can only register recreational mesh nets for use in Lake George.
New registrations are no longer available for mesh nets use in:
- the Coorong
- Lake Albert
- Lake Alexandrina.
You must register your recreational mesh nets annually. We accept mesh net registrations all year round and registrations expire on 30 June each year.
Conditions of use
- You must be over 15 years of age.
- Only 1 net can be registered per person.
- Only the registered holder can operate the mesh net.
- You must renew registration each year.
- You must pay the correct fee at the time of application.
- All registered nets will receive a PIRSA tag which must be attached to the yellow buoy.
- Netting is only permitted in the central and northern lagoons of Lake George. The southern lagoon and all other waters feeding into Lake George are closed to netting.

Renewing your registration
We send all recreational Lake George mesh net registration holders a renewal application before 30 June each year.
If you do not renew your registration for that year, you will need to re-apply using one of the options above.
A tax invoice with payment details will accompany your renewal application.
Mesh net registration pack
When you successfully register or renew your registration, you will receive a:
- registration certificate that expires 30 June each year
- Lake George mesh net information sheet ( or )
- registration tag for your mesh net.
Lost tags
If you lose a tag:
- immediately remove the mesh net from the water
- report the loss to Fishwatch on 1800 065 522
- either:
- fill in the application for a replacement Lake George mesh net tag online, or
- complete the PDF version ().
There is a fee to replace a mesh net tag.
