Independent Allocation Advisory Panel

The IAAP was tasked to investigate and provide advice on an appropriate basis for the allocation of individual transferable quota (ITQ) units for priority species (King George whiting, snapper, southern garfish and southern calamari) to individual licence holders in the Marine Scalefish Fishery (MSF).

The IAAP delivered its initial report in July 2020, which was released for industry consultation in August 2020.

Feedback on the proposed allocation method

Licence holders were provided with an opportunity to provide feedback on the proposed method for allocating individual transferable quota (ITQ) during Stage 2 of the industry consultation.

This feedback was considered by the IAAP in preparing its final report.

Indicative ITQ allocations for priority species in the MSF

Licence holders in the Marine Scalefish Fishery and rock lobster fisheries with Option C access were provided with their initial indicative individual transferable quota (ITQ) allocations for the four priority species in each proposed management zone of the Marine Scalefish Fishery in September 2020.

These estimates were based on the recommendations of the IAAP and the Total Allowable Commercial Catches (TACCs) for priority species recommended by the Snapper Management Advisory Committee and approved by the Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development.

In early July 2021, eligible licence holders will receive a letter outlining their final individual quota unit entitlement.
