Roach is a medium sized species that competes with native species for food.

What to look for:

  • silvery olive-green or dull bluish above, with bright silvery sides, a white belly
  • orange to red pectoral, pelvic and caudal fin
  • a relatively deep body with a high arched back, a small head and mouth, a strongly forked tail and bright red eyes
  • maximum length reported is 50 cm but the average size is 25 cm
