Marine species found in South Australia. It is established in the upper Spencer Gulf.

The Pearl Oyster is a tropical Australian native oyster.

What to look for:

  • strong inner shell layer composed of nacre, also known as "mother of pearl"
  • flat shell either grayish or greenish yellow and surrounded by a few indistinct brownish-green radial bands
  • small, only 7-10 cm in diameter
  • shells are usually oval or pear-shaped, but will vary widely in form depending on what they attach to.
