Pearl Oyster
Marine species found in South Australia. It is established in the upper Spencer Gulf.
The Pearl Oyster is a tropical Australian native oyster.
Exotic species under the Fisheries Management Act 2007. It may not be deposited, released or allowed to escape into any waters in South Australia without specific authorisation.

What to look for:
- strong inner shell layer composed of nacre, also known as "mother of pearl"
- flat shell either grayish or greenish yellow and surrounded by a few indistinct brownish-green radial bands
- small, only 7-10 cm in diameter
- shells are usually oval or pear-shaped, but will vary widely in form depending on what they attach to.
