Cane toad (Rhinella marina)

Terrestrial species not currently found in South Australia.

The cane toad:

  • predates on native species
  • competes for food and habitat.

Poison glands on either side of the head can harm native predators.

What to look for:

  • large up to 20 cm
  • heavy build with shortish legs
  • rough warty skin
  • usually tan dark green or brownish in colour
  • prominent sharp-edged ridge about the eye.
