'Adopt a Beach' program

‘Adopt a Beach’ is a monitoring and cleanup program developed by the Port Lincoln aquaculture industry, based on an agreement made in 2011. The program minimises the impact of debris on the coastal environment.

The program covers 155 km of coastline in the lower Spencer Gulf divided into 13 sites. Local aquaculture companies adopt a stretch of beach and clean up the beach 4 times a year.

Report marine debris

Members of the public can report marine debris sightings to Fishwatch on 1800 065 522. Marine debris located in an ‘Adopt a Beach’ area can also be reported to the Australian Southern Bluefin Tuna Industry Association on (08) 8682 3257.
