It's your chance to share your passion and knowledge in fisheries science, conservation or management as the World Fisheries Congress 2020 call for abstracts opens.
In October 2020 leading global fisheries experts will converge on Adelaide, Australia, for one of the largest international fisheries conferences, the World Fisheries Congress 2020 (WFC2020). WFC2020 will bring together research, industry, management and the latest technological advances in marine and freshwater fisheries worldwide.
Professor Gavin Begg, Chair of the WFC2020, said that the event would provide a platform for sharing international perspectives on fisheries issues.
"The Congress theme of 'Sharing our oceans and rivers – a vision for the world's fisheries' reflects the fact that sustainability, conservation and management into the future are issues we are tackling globally," said Professor Begg, who is the Research Director, Aquatic Sciences, South Australian Research and Development Institute (the research arm of Primary Industries and Regions SA).
"We are looking for abstracts that will share advancements in science, management and industry, and articulate global perspectives. Our aim is to build global fishery knowledge and contribute to a more integrated and synergistic approach to fisheries worldwide."
The WFC2020 International Program Committee is welcoming abstract submissions in all areas related to global fisheries issues and key developments needed to ensure a sustainable future for our oceans, lakes, estuaries and rivers, including commercial, recreational and Indigenous fishing communities.
Abstracts can be submitted under a list of topics put forward by the international fisheries community through the expressions of interest process.
The topics are organised around four key themes:
- Sustainable Fisheries (Assessment, Regulation, Enforcement)
- Fish and Aquatic Ecosystems (Biodiversity, Conservation, Ecosystem Function, Integrated Management)
- Fisheries and Society (Contributions to Sustainable Development)
- Future of Fish and Fisheries (Innovations in Fisheries)
Abstract submissions will close on 31 January 2020.
