Top 10 announced for South Australia's Ag Town of the Year Award

Wednesday 3 July 2024

The top 10 towns vying for the title of South Australia's Agricultural Town of Year 2024 have been selected with thousands of votes cast from around the state.

Kapunda, Bute, Eudunda, Cummins, Gladstone, Kimba, Burra, Laura, Penola and Jamestown have made it through to the next stage of the competition and edged a step closer to taking home the coveted award.

The towns will now be invited to submit written applications that outline how they promote and support agriculture, which are assessed by an independent judging panel.

The panel then selects 3 finalists which will move forward to the town visits stage of the competition.

This year a record 73 towns were nominated from around the state with more than 3,600 public votes cast.

Wudinna on the Eyre Peninsula won the title last year in recognition of the town's leadership in the agriculture sector including in agricultural education for local children and young people and for its current and relevant farmer-driven research and development.

Mypolonga, Kimba, Pinnaroo and Cleve have also previously won the award and now proudly display a sign in recognition of their achievement at the entrance of the town for all to see.

The Agricultural Town of the Year Award is an initiative of the Department of Primary Industries and Regions and delivered in partnership with InDaily.

The 2024 winner will be announced at the Regional Showcase Awards celebration event on 24 October.
