The Cadney Park area in South Australia will benefit from new improved mobile coverage following the completion of a new macro cell mobile base station under the Australian Government’s Mobile Black Spot Program.
This macro cell, jointly funded by Australian Government, South Australian Government, and Telstra under Round 4 of the program, will provide new and improved coverage and connectivity in and around the Cadney Park area and a stretch of the Sturt Highway.
The project will support local business and visitors to the area where there was previously limited mobile coverage. The solution will also enhance protections during emergencies and natural disasters.
The Government’s Mobile Black Spot Program has generated to date a total investment of more than $875 million towards new mobile infrastructure, including co-contributions from the mobile industry, state, territory and local governments and other third parties.
The Australian Government remains committed to improving connectivity in rural and regional communities through its Better Connectivity Plan for Regional and Rural Australia, announced in the October 2022-23 Federal Budget.
The Plan includes $400 million dedicated to boosting mobile coverage and resilience, $200 million for place-based connectivity solutions under two new rounds of the Regional Connectivity Program, $30 million for on-farm connectivity, and an independent audit of mobile coverage to better identify and target blackspots.
The Plan forms a signifcant part of the $2.2 billion being invested by the Albanese Government toward improving regional connectivity.
