Regional community groups will have the opportunity to apply for grants to support projects which benefit their local area with a new round of the Thriving Communities Program open today.
Delivered through the State Government's Thriving Regions Fund, the program provides grants from $20,000 up to $50,000 for small projects such as new or improved infrastructure, training, services, or events with well being outcomes.
Successful projects are those which build social capital through facilitating community group participation, create a sense of belonging and improve equity of access.
In 2022–23 the State Government provided funding to help bring 39 projects to life across South Australia's regions.
Upgraded visitor facilities at the historic Glencoe Woolshed, an extension at the Jamestown Shearer Training Centre, new machinery at the Millicent Men's Shed metal workshop and a new playground and shaded area at the Lochiel Community Centre were among last year's successful projects.
The last round also funded upgrades to community kitchens in Tulka, Frances and Kalangadoo and restoration works at the Mt McKenzie Hall and at Minlaton’s Heritage Show Pavilion.
The grants support projects that can be completed within 12 months. Applications open on Thursday 12 September, and close on 24 October.
