PIRSA’s AgTech program was delivered from 2021 to June 2025 bringing together a series of multi-faceted initiatives designed to enhance better decision making around AgTech adoption and drive on-farm innovation.

The program aimed to boost productivity, profitability and sustainability across South Australia’s primary industries sectors.

Program highlights

  • AgTech Demonstration Farms trialled 77 technologies from 58 companies, hosting over 580 producers through field days, workshops, and on-farm tours.
  • AgTechGrowth Fund supported 23 projects through two funding rounds to develop innovative solutions to address drought resilience, climate adaption, carbon and sustainability management, traceability and natural capital.
  • 17 AgTech Producer groups across livestock, grains, viticulture, horticulture, and seafood sectors were established. These groups hosted 36 peer-learning workshops, attended by over 310 producers.
  • The 1-million-dollar Kangaroo Island AgTech Program funded by the commonwealth regional Recovery Partnership Program established:
    • 18 producer demonstration sites
    • completed 3 AgTech research projects
    • delivered 17 producer engagement events, reaching approximately 333 local producers with hands-on demonstrations and support.
    • rolled out 15 technology grants for beneficial technologies trialled through the demonstration program
    • producer surveys showed an average knowledge increase of 80% on each technology trialled and 50% choosing to purchase the technology following the trial.
