First round of successful Thriving Communities grant recipients announced

Thursday 1 June 2023

Five community projects across the southern Flinders Ranges and Limestone Coast are set to benefit from the State Government’s $600,000 Thriving Communities Program.

The program, launched in January this year as part of the Thriving Regions fund, is about supporting infrastructure, services, and wellbeing outcomes.

It is aimed at facilitating small projects that build social resilience through facilitating greater community participation, and ease of access through initiatives such as new or improved infrastructure, plant and equipment, access to services and programs, or events with wellbeing outcomes.

The initial successful projects under the Thriving Communities Program include:

  • The Glencoe Woolshed Branch, National Trust towards construction of upgraded toilets including disabled toilet facilities ($36,000)
  • Orroroo’s 5431 Collective for its 'Connect/Create /Celebrate' Project: Connect – establish a community garden; Create – a series of resilience workshops; Celebrate – introduce an annual Rural Women’s celebration event ($44,379)
  • Naracoorte District Men's Shed for stage two of its new engine shed ($21,000)
  • Millicent Golf Club for wheelchair and disabled access works ($28,802)
  • Bundaleer Forest Community Areas Association for its wayfinding signage, including illuminated entrance and exit signs; a site information bay and clear directional signage for amenities, attractions, and safety, as part of its Bundaleer Forest Reserve project ($50,000).

Eligible local community associations and registered charities are still able to apply for grants ranging from $20,000 to $50,000 under the Thriving Communities Program until 30 June 2023, unless the full funding amount has been allocated beforehand.

For further information including how to apply, see Thriving Communities Program.
