SA Wine Industry Council (SAWIC)

The South Australian Wine Industry Council (SAWIC) was established in January 2003 as a collaborative partnership between the wine industry and the Government of South Australia to enable discussion of issues that are of significance for the future development of the wine industry.

Agriculture Minister Hon. Gail Gago MLC chairs the Council and Ms Louisa Rose is the co-chair. The Council membership comprises a Senior Government Minister together with leaders from all sectors of the wine industry who meet at least four times a year.

Terms of Reference

The Terms of Reference for the South Australian Wine Industry Council are to:

  1. Maintain the pre-eminent position of the South Australian industry within the Australian wine industry and to promote ongoing sustainable development by:
    1. Reviewing and providing the South Australian Government with advice and recommendations in relation to relevant State Government policies, strategies and initiatives.
    2. Providing the South Australian Government with advice and recommendations to enable it to advocate on behalf of the South Australian Wine Industry.
    3. Providing the South Australian Government with advice and recommendations in relation to issues, challenges and opportunities affecting the wine industry that come within the scope of the Government's role as outlined in the Wine Partnership.
    4. Identifying and initiating appropriate responses from either Industry or Government to issues, challenges and opportunities affecting the South Australian wine industry.

The Council's role includes:

  1. supporting a positive and collaborative partnership between the South Australian wine industry and the South Australian State Government.
  2. ensuring that there are synergies between the Industry's strategic plans and the Government's; and work with Government in the implementation of the current Partnership plan and develop and implement future Partnership plans; and
  3. providing a forum for the exchange of strategically significant information and discussion of issues, challenges and opportunities that impact on the value chain of the South Australian wine industry.
