The Senior Agricultural Officer (Weed Ecology) provides skilled assistance for the SARDI/GRDC Bilateral Weed Ecology project undertaken by the group. This role is responsible for the conduct of and data collection from field trials in the Northern and Yorke Peninsula agricultural regions for this research program. It will also assist the Bilateral Weed Ecology Senior Research Officer in overseeing processes for the running of research trials elsewhere in the state.

The Senior Agricultural Officer (Weed Ecology) is responsible for organising, overseeing and training of casual staff assisting in this project on a seasonal basis. The incumbent also provides support to the Research Scientist (NVA, Clare) to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Clare Research Centre group facilities and equipment. These responsibilities require that the Senior Agricultural Officer (Weed Ecology) possesses well-developed organisation, planning, record keeping and communication skills, as well as technical expertise in field crop production and maintenance of a range of field machinery and minor equipment.

Special conditions

This is a part time contract/term vacancy working 30 hours a fortnight up to 30/06/2021. This is a physically demanding role that requires an above average level of Physical Fitness and involves exposure to dust and pollen, which may cause an allergic reaction in some people. A pre-employment medical may be required. Some out of hours work and country travel as well as interstate and intrastate travel will be required. The incumbent is required to work off-site at other regional locations such as Waite Precinct, Turretfield Research Centre and private farms in the Northern and Yorke Peninsula agricultural regions. A preparedness to undertake field work in a range of weather conditions is required.


A current Chemcert Certificate will be required as the role will involve the use and handling of agricultural pesticides. A current Class 1 driver’s licence is essential and a medium rigid (MR) truck licence would be an advantage. A current forklift license (LF) will be required as the role will involve maintaining the Clare NVA grain seed store.
