New cardiac monitoring for Port Augusta

29 December 2008

Port Augusta Hospital is getting a new $245,000 cardiac monitoring system.

Health Minister John Hill says the new system will soon be installed and operating.

"This is a really significant initiative for the Port Augusta Hospital and gives patients in the region access to the most up-to-date equipment," Minister Hill says.

"This new monitoring system will help staff to make the best decisions for their patients."

The cardiac monitoring system will be available to the theatre, recovery, nursery, and accident and emergency departments.

The announcement follows the installation of a new cardiac monitoring system in the hospital's High Dependency Unit (HDU) earlier this year.

More than $9 million in funding for asset programs for country health care services across South Australia was recently announced by the State Government.

This will go towards the development and maintenance of key infrastructure throughout the state under the Annual Asset Sustainment Program (AASP).

"We're very focused on the planning and provision of country health services and we've allocated this funding to make sure services keep on improving.

"Initiatives such as comprehensive works programs and the purchase of biomedical equipment are fundamental to achieving this aim."

A total of $9 million has been allocated to Country Health SA for the 2008-09 AASP.

"The State Government's annual spending on country health has risen dramatically in the past six years, jumping by $210 million to $591 million since 2002, showing our huge commitment to the health of country South Australians,' Minister Hill says
