South Australian towns along the 2010 Santos Tour Down Under race routes can now register to be part of the Santos Best Dressed Town Competition, supported by KESAB.
Tourism Minister Jane Lomax-Smith has called for South Australian towns, businesses and households to show their cycling spirit and creative flair by dressing up to celebrate Australia's biggest cycling race.
"The Santos Best Dressed Town Competition is a great way for South Australian communities to be part of the excitement of the Santos Tour Down Under," says Dr Lomax-Smith.
"The competition adds fun and atmosphere to the Santos Tour Down Under and is highly regarded by riders and visitors alike.
"During the Tour de France, local communities famously go to great lengths to decorate towns and I'm sure South Australians will embrace this competition to showcase their towns and community pride.
"It's a great way for towns to promote themselves by attracting the attention of the spectators, riders and the international media filming the race."
A panel from KESAB will judge a stage winner each day and an overall winner will be announced at the end of the event.
Prizes include signed framed jerseys and garden products from Peats Soil and Garden Supplies, with the overall Santos Best Dressed Town receiving a truckload of mulch.
"Competition will be fierce, with many new towns keen to impress the thousands of spectators who flock to the regions, and of course to grab the attention of Lance Armstrong and the other cyclists as they speed by on their bikes," says Dr Lomax-Smith.
