It's official: visitors love the Barossa

Media Release | 18 July 2008

Nine out of 10 visitors to the Barossa would recommend the destination for a holiday, a major national survey has found.

The results of the survey, carried out by Tourism Research Australia and released today, prove that a holiday in the Barossa lives up to the highest expectations - with 93% of visitors happy with their overall experience in the region.

The Visitor Profile and Satisfaction Report also showed 87% of people were satisfied with their food and wine experiences in the Barossa, and with general touring in the region.

Regional Marketing Manager of Tourism Barossa, Racheal Klitscher, says the results were great news for the future of tourism in the area.

"The Barossa is a distinctive destination and an icon of South Australia,' she says.

'Our tourism operators, winemakers, cellar door staff and regional chefs all work hard to create memorable experiences for visitors, and these figures show they are succeeding."

As well as food and wine attractions, the survey found that key strengths of the Barossa as a holiday destination included relaxation and rejuvenation, quality time with a partner, family or friends, and experiencing the Barossa's history and heritage.

"In the Barossa, visitors can relax in premium accommodation, get close to nature, explore the rich heritage of the region and experience some of the best wine and food the State has to offer - it's a brilliant South Australian blend," Ms Klitscher says.

The report looked at visitor satisfaction and profiles across seven regions in country South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales.

The results for the Barossa were based on a sample of 207 people who visited the region during September and October in 2007.
