State Government supports Murray Bridge Racing Club

17 May 2011

The South Australian Government is providing $265,000 from its Regional Development Infrastructure Fund (RDIF) to further improve the Murray Bridge Racing Club’s new racecourse and training facility.

Regional Development Minister Gail Gago says the planned project will feature a 100-hectare training estate, making the new facility twice the size of the original, also stables and specialised racehorse training facilities.

“This exciting development will include a 2160m, 30m wide grass racing track, a synthetic surface training track for all-weather use and a sand jog track,” the Minister said.

“There will be a grandstand with corporate and hospitality facilities, members’ and committee facilities, a tavern, betting ring and administration areas.

“The club estimates the $35 million project will attract greater investment into local racing by providing affordable training facilities, stabling accommodation and additional employment.

“The overall project will be a major contributor towards the economic and population growth of Murray Bridge.

“The project plan itself has been designed in accordance with the urban growth plan and the goals and objectives of the Regional Development Australia – Murraylands and Riverland.”

Chairman of the Murray Bridge Racing Club, Reg Nolan, says the grant money will help fund installation of water infrastructure for the new racecourse and training facility.

“As part of the overall project we will also purchase a range of new equipment and make the complex available for community events,” Mr Nolan said.

“With the brand new facilities, our club is now in a great position to provide support to the local community, rather than the local community working to support the club.”

Chair of the Murraylands and Riverland RDA, Neil Martinson, says the funding grant was great news for the region.

“The RDIF has provided vital funding for a range of significant projects in the Murraylands area including T&R Pastoral’s wastewater treatment plant, and providing gas and electricity to Big River Feed’s new feed mill,” Mr Martinson said.

“These projects have improved the overall capabilities of these businesses and have created a number of new jobs and I thank the State Government for their ongoing support of the region.”

Minister Gago said the RDIF plays an important role in the implementation of South Australia’s Strategic Plan by helping to meet a number of targets for regional jobs, investment and export earnings.
