Green Triangle Freight Action Plan

15 January 2010

The South Australian and Victorian Governments have released details on the implementation of the Green Triangle Freight Action Plan to secure multi-million dollar trade and employment opportunities in the Green Triangle Region.

The South Australian Minister for Infrastructure, Patrick Conlon and Victorian Minister for Roads and Ports, Tim Pallas say significant progress had been achieved since the April 2009 release of the Green Triangle Freight Action Plan.

Mr Conlon says communities across the Green Triangle Region would benefit from the ongoing investment in infrastructure.

"There is an estimated $8.7 billion worth of private investment set to occur in the Green Triangle Region over the next five years in mining, timber, energy, agriculture and dairying," he says.

"It is critical the right infrastructure exists for communities to benefit from these opportunities.

"Much of this new investment will be in new and emerging sectors such as low-emissions thermal power, wave energy and natural gas - helping to strengthen the region's economy in a carbon-constrained future."

Mr Pallas says action must be taken to capitalise on the opportunities in this region.

"The Green Triangle Freight Action Plan outlines the significant export and employment opportunities in the region over the next decade and beyond and the need for infrastructure upgrades to the value of $340 million to accommodate the growing freight task," Mr Pallas says.
