RCCC to visit Southern Fleurieu

10 November 2008

Water security issues are expected to dominate discussions at the next meeting of the Regional Communities Consultative Council (RCCC) at Encounter Bay on 13-14 November 2008.

Members of the RCCC will hear from community representatives of the Fleurieu region on a broad range of issues at a function in Goolwa.

Regional Development Minister Rory McEwen MP says the RCCC travels around the State, providing an ideal opportunity for feedback from communities in rural and regional South Australia.

"The RCCC is able to identify common issues across regional South Australia, such as those faced by small-to-medium sized enterprises on the Fleurieu Peninsula," Mr McEwen says.

As part of their two-day trip to the Fleurieu Peninsula, RCCC members will be visiting local businesses such as the Alexandrina Cheese Company at Mt Jagged.

The RCCC will receive a presentation from the Fleurieu Regional Development Board and talk to the Victor Harbor and Alexandrina Councils about priorities, issues and opportunities in the region.

"The Council provides advice to the Government on policies aimed at facilitating regional economic growth and development.

"It is an important voice for regional communities and has had significant involvement in the implementation of South Australia's Strategic Plan," Mr McEwen says.

The Council was established in 2002 and regularly conducts meetings and forums in regional communities.
