The State Government has welcomed the announcement of $15.89 million in funding awarded to South Australia through the Federal Government’s Regional Development Australia Fund (RDAF).
Round One of the RDAF program has delivered more than 10 per cent of the $150 million in available funds to South Australian projects.
The $1 billion RDAF supports the infrastructure needs and economic growth of Australia’s regions and is designed to leverage state, commonwealth, local government, private and not-for-profit investments.
The South Australian projects awarded RDAF Round One grants include:
- $4.5 million to the District Council of Lower Eyre Peninsula towards the Port Lincoln Airport Upgrade. The project, costing a total of $12.66 million, includes the construction of a new purpose-built terminal building and car park as well as passenger services and facilities. (RDA Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula)
- $4.81 million to the Barossa Council to go towards the construction of a new shared bicycle and walking path from Tanunda to Gawler in support of the region’s reputation as a cycle-friendly tourist area. (RDA Barossa)
- $914,672 to the Flinders Ranges Council to go towards “Energizing the Flinders” – a green energy infrastructure project which will install solar power systems at 10 locations across the Flinders region and 84 solar lights at local community places. (RDA Far North)
- $1.72 million to the District Council of Streaky Bar to go towards the development of the Streaky Bay Oval Precinct. This will include the construction of a new community complex,
- gymnasium/activities room and two synthetic bowling greens. (RDA Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula)
- $1.11 million to Uniting Care Wesley Port Pirie Inc to go towards the development of the Port Pirie Men’s Shed and Community Centre Complex and Rebuild Project. This project will support current and expanded training and employment activities for disadvantaged people and families in the region. (RDA Yorke and Mid North)
- $2.84 million for the Ananguku Arts and Culture Aboriginal Corporation to develop APY Art Centres 2030. This project will upgrade and build new art centre infrastructure at Iwantja, Mimili, Kaltjiti, Ernabella, Amata and Kalka on the APY Lands to enable increased access to art centre programs and to boost Indigenous employment opportunities in the arts. (RDA North)
Regional Australia Development (RDA) committees played a major role in working with their local communities to identify projects that were consistent with their regional plans.
With some RDA committee members’ terms of office due to expire, expressions of interest for RDA memberships were recently advertised.
Applications for Round Two of the RDAF program, valued at $150 million, will open in November this year.
Further details around RDAF criteria and supporting documentation will be available at www.regional.gov.au or by emailing rdaf@regional.gov.au in November.
