The State Government has announced the membership of the new Outback Communities Authority.
The new seven-member governance authority replaces the former Outback Areas Community Development Trust, established in 1978.
Minister for State/Local Government Relations, Gail Gago, says the new Authority will manage and govern an area covering 65 per cent of the State, and serve about 3,800 people in more than 30 communities.
"Under the new governance arrangements, Outback residents will have the opportunity to put forward views on a five-year strategic management plan, annual business plan and budget," Ms Gago says.
"In close consultation with Outback communities, the new Authority will develop these long-term plans for the development of community infrastructure and the delivery of services."
"I am especially pleased that the former Chair of the Outback Areas Community Development Trust, Bill McIntosh, has been appointed as the Chair of the new Authority.
Other members appointed include Pat Katnich, Toni Bauer, Frances Frahn, Jennifer Cleary, Margaret Heylen and George Beltche.
The Authority will be supported by State Government staff, based primarily at Port Augusta, with the first meeting of new members to be scheduled as soon as practicable in this new financial year.
