Adelaide joins the Great Wine Capitals of the World
Adelaide / South Australia has accepted an invitation to join the Great Wine Capitals Global Network, a group of internationally renowned wine regions.
The eight existing members of this prestigious network - Bilbao / Rioja (Spain), Bordeaux (France), Cape Town (South Africa), Mainz / Rheinhessen (Germany), Mendoza (Argentina), Porto (Portugal), San Francisco / Napa Valley (USA) and Valparaìso / Casablanca Valley (Chile) - voted unanimously for Adelaide to become a Great Wine Capital of the World.
Membership in the network acknowledges excellence in grape and wine production, a commitment to research and development, education and wine tourism services, and the way in which the wine industry is inextricably linked to the city's character, success and vision.
Promoting Adelaide as a Great Wine Capital will help increase global awareness about the state's premium wine and wine tourism experiences.
Adelaide's membership will be delivered by four founding partners - Primary Industries and Regions SA (PIRSA), the South Australian Wine Industry Association (SAWIA), the South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC) and Brand South Australia.
The partners will jointly develop a program to maximise the opportunities membership will provide, with PIRSA taking responsibility for 'local coordinator' functions, including communicating with the International Secretariat.
We will be in contact with industry stakeholders in the coming weeks to invite you to engage with us about how we can maximise the opportunities of this membership and work together on a joint program of activities.
