They’re the unsung heroes on the recreational fishing scene.
They’re Fishcare Volunteers and they’re a familiar site along South Australia’s jetties, beaches, rivers and at important community events.
The help keep anglers up to date with the rules and regulations that apply to rec fishing. And they have a vital role in raising community awareness of the need to protect the state’s fishing resource.
Easily recognisable in their blue uniforms, volunteers are regularly out and about, armed with important Fisheries brochures, stickers and various measuring devices.
TONI COX, STATE FISHCARE VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR:
Fishcare Volunteers are the education arm of Fisheries Services. They provide information to rec fishers and provide give them updates on the rules and regulations that might be at the time.

It’s all about educating rec fishers through face-to-face contact, providing important advice and assistance. It’s all to make sure anglers don’t over fish and there’s enough fish for the future.
DAVE EARL, FISHCARE VOLUNTEER:
Wherever you go, you’re meeting different people from different walks of life. They’ve all got different interests in the fishing side of things, and they just seem to have a good interaction with the Fishcare Volunteers.
