Transcript - Rural Women's Awards 2010

VOICE OVER: She’s the face behind one of South Australia’s most popular dairy products.

And now Ulli Spranz from B-d Farm Paris Creek has a new reason to celebrate.
She’s the winner of this year’s RIRDC Rural Women’s Award for South Australia.

Twenty two-years ago, German migrants Ulli and husband Helmet arrived with only a few dollars in the bank. Today their Adelaide Hill’s business - famous for its biodynamic milk, yogurt and cheese - rakes in more than $11 million a year.

ULLI SPRANZ: “Winning the award means for me acknowledgment for what I am doing and for everybody who is putting a lot of work into anything, any project, any development.”

VOICE OVER: Ulli has set out to revolutionise the agriculture industry by using organic farming methods.

And to help Ulli in her quest, a $10 thousand dollar bursary - courtesy of RIRDC - was given to her by Status of Women Minister Gail Gago.

ULLI SPRANZ: “I will use the bursary to further develop the workshops. They provide for biodynamic farmers, to help their development, their farming practices and farming management.”

VOICE OVER: In May, Ulli will compete for the national award in Canberra.

Now in its 11th year, the RIRDC award recognises the vital role women make to rural Australia.
