It’s that time of year – the annual Tunarama Festival – and Fishcare volunteers will once again be on hand to take part in this celebration of the industry that has helped put the coastal town on the map.
For the third year running festival goers are invited to visit the PIRSA Fishcare stall, located at the entrance of the Port Lincoln jetty.
The team of volunteers will be there for all four days of the festival, handing out the new Bag, Boat & Size Limit brochures, which includes the Gunyah Beach Pipi changes.
PIRSA State Fishcare Volunteer Coordinator, Toni Cox, said the stall provides a great opportunity for anglers to talk with the volunteers in a relaxed atmosphere.
“The Eyre Peninsula is renowned for its amazing seafood so needless to say there are a lot of keen recreational fishers in the community,” Ms Cox said.
“Our volunteers are very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about fishing rules and regulations and their presence at community events always attracts positive feedback.
“We want to ensure that fishers can continue with their hobby, while also promoting a sustainable future for the industry.”
In its 51st year, the Tunarama Festival showcases Port Lincoln’s best local chefs cooking seafood from the Eyre Peninsula, complimented by the finest of local ingredients and wine. Tunarama runs from 26 to 29 January 2012.
