PIRSA Fisheries and Aquaculture has invited Eyre Peninsula residents to have their say on the future of Pipi collection from Gunyah and surrounding beaches.
Community members are encouraged to attend a public meeting on Monday 13 December at the Port Lincoln RSL Hall, Hallet Place, at 7.30pm.
PIRSA Fisheries and Aquaculture Regional Manager West, Andrew Carr, said that the meeting would discuss the management arrangements for Pipi fishing at Gunyah beach and give the public an opportunity to express their views.
"Local residents as well as the local fishing industry have raised their concern at the amount of Pipis being taken from Gunyah Beach," he said.
"This forum aims to provide all members within the community with an opportunity to have their say."
Mr Carr said that increased awareness of Gunyah Beach as a source of Pipis, plus the rising costs of Pipis from bait shops, had been significant contributing factors to the increase in Pipis taken from the beach.
"PIRSA welcomes feedback from the general public in deciding on future management arrangements for Pipi collection at Gunyah Beach," he said.
