The outstanding success of the South Australian Government’s $30.9 million Plan for Accelerating Exploration – or PACE – has been much talked about since it was launched in early 2004.
Premier Rann released the Labor Party policy document ‘Mining in South Australia Policy 2010’ on the 25 February 2010. The main focus of this document was a $10.2 million expansion of the PACE initiative aimed at advancing resource exploration and mining developments in the State.
When announcing the expansion of PACE – known as PACE 2020, Premier Rann MP was quoted as saying…
Our plan to expand PACE isn’t just about opening more areas of the State to drilling. We want to expand our PACE scheme to help mining companies get from exploration to mine development in record time. We are planning to help companies that want to develop a mine, to have their applications processed within six months. This will send a strong signal to mining companies that South Australia means business.
PACE 2020 maintains the core principals of economic stimulation, accessibility to land, development of sustainable exploration and mining, increasing cultural awareness and balancing development with the environment.
The programs of PACE 2020 have been specifically designed to drive forward mining development, and will continue to act as the primary mechanism in building South Australia’s international profile and strengthening investor confidence in the State’s resources sector.
Over the next four years PACE 2020 will focus efforts on three key work programs - PACE Exploration, PACE Mining and PACE Global.
