Incident Reporting

Energy Resources Division (formerly Petroleum and Geothermal Group) has prepared a Guideline for Reportable and Serious Incident Reports Prepared Under the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Act 2000 for use by licensees in incident analysis and reporting in accordance with the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Act 2000 (the Act). The use of this guideline aims to achieve consistency in root cause analysis definitions used and reported by licensees, to enable the Energy resources Division to validly analyse and interpret incident data.

Data on the causal factors of incidents reported under the Act is analysed by the Enrgy Resources Division on an annual basis, and reported in the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Act Annual Compliance Report.

Energy Resources Division (formerly Petroleum and Geothermal Group) has also developed, in consultation with Licensees, a set of Incident Definitions for Facilities and Pipelines Regulated Under the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Act 2000. These definitions are intended to expand on definitions provided in Section 85(1) of the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Act 2000 and Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Regulation 32(1), and provide consistency for Licensee reporting.
