Monitoring of Flood Waters
Free, Real time satellite images on a daily basis are available through the following website.

The data set most appropriate is called “Near–real-time Imagery” and by clicking on Australia the image zooms up to allow the operator to select the image most appropriate for the area of interest.
For the Cooper-Eromanga area the only 2 choices are the Birdsville image or Tinga Tingana image. The Birdsville sheet covers the northerly area while the Tinga Tingana sheet covers the more southerly areas with a reasonable overlap of the 2.
Left clicking on the Tinga Tingana sheet area/option produces the following screen.
The recommended option for water/flood analysis is the “Modis Terra 721” or “Modis Aqua 721” option. For the highest resolution select the 250m pixel option.
Selecting the 250 m option will produce an image on the screen with some download options.
For application in Google Earth select the KMZ file option which is already geo-referenced.
Save the file onto hard drive in readiness for Google Earth to access this file later.
Run Google Earth and open file previously saved to the hard drive.
Access to tenement data and well locations are all available through the PIRSA SARIG system and these data can also be downloaded as KMZ files suitable for use in Google Earth.
By downloading these daily images on a regular basis an operator can now monitor, predict and manage the likely impacts of flooding events on specific tenement areas.
