Environmental Register

This register provides public access to environmental data as required under the Petroleum Act 2000 and associated regulations.

Provision of this public register is part of a strategy to demonstrate that there is transparency and accountability in decision-making processes.

You can use the navigation options in the left-hand menu to browse various sections of the register, or you can use the Search the Environmental Register facility.

Section 106 and Section 107 of the Petroleum Act 2000 require that an Environmental Register be established for public inspection. These sections are intended to provide the means that will aid stakeholders in contributing to the establishment of environmental objectives and determining whether the regulatory objectives of the Act have been met.

The register contains information on the four areas of petroleum industry activity, which includes seismic surveying, drilling, pipelines and facilities, as administered by the Petroleum Group .

The Act specifies that the following data will be contained in the register:

  • Environmental impact reports
  • Criteria for the classification of regulated activities
  • Classifications of regulated activities made by the Minister
  • Statements of environmental objectives that have been approved under the Petroleum Act 2000
  • Reports provided under reporting obligations imposed by Statements of Environmental Objectives
  • Environmental impact assessments that affect regulated activities under the Development Act 1993
  • Annual licensee compliance reports
  • The following transitional documents, which relate to ongoing activities:

    • Statements of Environmental Objectives
    • Codes of Environmental Practice
    • Declarations of Environmental Factors
    • Alternative arrangements

that have been prepared prior to the enacting of the Petroleum Act 2000 and which have been deemed by the Minister as satisfying the requirements of the Act.

The Minister has the discretion to include other data such as

  • Fitness for Purpose Reports and Emergency Response Drill Reports subsequent to consultation with licensees

as he/she deems to be appropriate.
