Title: Woomera Prohibited Area and Access Management Zones
Custodian: Department of Primary Industries and Resources SA
Jurisdiction: South Australia
This dataset contains the outer boundary of the Woomera Prohibited Area and internal access management zones (version 3). The WPA outer boundary is as defined in the Commonwealth Government Gazette number GN 26 dated 12 July 1989 and further depicted in the deposited public plan number GP 249/1989. The internal zones are as depicted in the Review of the Woomera Prohibited Area - Final Report dated 4 February 2011 prepared by Dr Allan Hawke AC. The final delineation of detailed zone boundaries have been created in consultation between the Department of Defence and PIRSA and define areas with differing access restrictions. An associated map (PIRSA plan number 204192-001) has also been prepared that describes in detail the characteristics of each boundary segment.

Lineage:
The boundaries have been constructed from a variety of source data inputs and numerous geometric techniques have been used. The outer boundary is based on the definition appearing in the Commonwealth Government Gazette number GN 26 dated 12 July 1989 and further depicted in the deposited public plan number GP 249/1989. The best available digital GIS datasets have been used to construct each individual boundary segment. Data sources include the parcel layer of the Digital Cadastral Database (DTEI), railway lines from Geoscience Australia's 250K mapping, heads-up digitisation from aerial imagery, tracks from 50K topographic mapping (DENR), pastoral fencelines (ex-DFW), power transmission lines (ElectraNet) and mineral tenement boundaries (PIRSA).
Rigorous GIS techniques were used throughout. These were augmented by the use of interpolation (densification) with the gnomonic map projection to accurately depict geodesics and Vincenty's formulae direct method for bearing and distance calculations.
Positional accuracy:
Variable depending on the input data source. A linear dataset exists that describes how each boundary segment was constructed. Positional accuracy can be assessed using these data.
Attribute accuracy:
Reliable, as extracted from the Hawke Report 2011.
Logical consistency:
Topological rules ensure that zones, boundaries and points are logically consistent i.e. they do not overlap and shared boundaries are identical.
Completeness:
100% complete.

Purpose: To manage access to the Woomera Prohibited Area by delineating internal access zones.
Use: Military use, mineral exploration and production, land access.
Use limitation: Absolute locational accuracy is dependent of the numerous data sources used to create these data. Any derived coordinate data should be used with caution and account taken of the source accuracy and construction methods.
