Note to all SARIG users: |
The South Australian Resources Information Geoserver is an online web application that enables users to search, view and download information relating to minerals and petroleum exploration in South Australia. It also provides mineral exploration companies with the ability to apply online for mineral exploration licences. SARIG has been developed by the Office of Minerals and Energy Resources within Primary Industries and Resources South Australia (PIRSA) - an agency of the Government of South Australia.
What web browsers support SARIG features
SARIG was developed and tested for Internet Explorer 5.5 (or above) and uses HTML 4.01 features not supported in earlier web browsers. We have done limited testing with Netscape 7 and found only one problem which we have not yet overcome. This problem relates to the polygon drawing tool for online licence applications and we have found it necessary to disable this function for Netscape 7 users. To apply for a new mineral exploration licence online, you will need to be using Internet Explorer as your browser.
Using SARIG with Microsoft Vista
The following instructions are required when using Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 5.5 or greater) with Vista operating system. Note SARIG has been optimised for screen resolutions of at least 1024 x 768
For those of you who were familiar with the first release of SARIG, the two streams of functionality have been merged, so you can now apply for an exploration licence over a map showing your choice of geoscience and tenement data. We now have a cleaner, more sophisticated look and feel with fewer pages, fewer pop-ups and better online help. In addition, you can now generate high quality maps at standard map scales on sheet sizes from A4 to A0.
The 'new generation' SARIG provides user-friendly, state-of-the-art access to South Australian geoscientific data, including:
Our Legend and Layer lists are now on screen rather than separate pop-up windows and the Layer list has a 2-level tree structure. We also have more layers - including petroleum data and the State's 1:100K geology data. The Legend is now presented in the correct stratigraphic order.
The Layer list is a 'one stop shop' for data:
The map window allows you to choose from a number of pre-set zoom factors corresponding to standard map scales and you are also able to enter a specific scale factor. (However, because of the vagaries of monitors and screen resolutions, map scales will never be 100% accurate.)
There is now an 'overview' map showing which part of the State you are zoomed in to and we have some pre-set maps allowing rapid zoom to selected locations, mines and geological provinces. In addition, we give you the ability to save any displayed map for easy retrieval later.
Our SAMREF database (bibliographic and abstract data for open file envelopes, reports etc), Mine Summaries and Petroleum Environmental Register databases are now available online in SARIG. Not only do these databases support text-based searching, but there is also a spatial interface which allows you to find all reports for any number of 250K, 100K or 50K mapsheets. Reports already in digital format can be downloaded from the site - others can be ordered via email.
Licence applications are now much faster and your licence area may now include up to three separate polygons (subject to rules on total area and distance between polygons).
In addition to the 'drawing' method of defining your licence application area, we now give you the ability to enter and edit a table of longitudes and latitudes defining your application area(s).
You are now able to save your area definition and application form details and retrieve them later to complete your licence application or use them as a template for future applications. You can also attach Microsoft Word documents documenting your exploration plans, financial resources and technical resources.
The South Australian Resources Information GeoServer (SARIG) User Guide (.pdf 1.2Mb) is an illustrated guide to using SARIG and its features and is an excellent reference for users of all levels.
The Mineral Resource Group offers ½ day training sessions to assist SARIG users. If you would be interested in booking in a group or individually, . Previous workshops have been very successful and offer an excellent opportunity to talk to the developers.
