Minister for Manufacturing, Innovation and Trade Tom Koutsantonis said today South Australia’s exports have set a record for the ninth consecutive month, again outpacing all other State’s growth.
Figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) show the value of goods exported overseas by South Australia in 2011 totalled a record $12 billion.
South Australia also recorded the fastest pace of export growth of all the other states in 2011 compared with the previous 12 months, the ABS data shows.
“This is the seventh straight month that South Australia has experienced the fastest-paced growth of any State in Australia,” Mr Koutsantonis says.
“The 29 per cent increase in the value of goods exported in the 12 months to December 2011 was worth an additional $2.7 billion compared to South Australia’s tally of exports in 2010.
“These stellar results prove yet again that South Australia is leading the pack in export growth.
“There’s no clearer evidence of this than the fact that once again South Australia’s pace of export growth is more than double the national growth rate of 14 per cent.
“This Government is committed to building on this success to ensure our export levels continue to grow in the future by focusing our efforts on emerging growth markets in our region such as China and India.”
A breakdown of exports by commodity and by destination based on the ABS figures will be made available as soon as possible.
