Prominent Hill - Malu and Ankata

Mining operation:

Open pit mine (Malu); a conventional crushing, grinding and flotation processing plant

Underground operation (Ankata) - an extension to the open pit mine

The Ankata undergound operation will mine deep extensions of thick, mineralised hematite breccias characteristic of Prominent Hill Shear Zone mineralisation and adjacent ore doians, and extensions ot hematite altered Cu-Au-bearing breccias directly beneath the eastern gold zone and eastern margin of the Malu open cut pit.

Approximately 650 km north-northwest of Adelaide, about halfway between Roxby Downs and Coober Pedy; 130 km NW of Olympic Dam and 130 km SE of Coober Pedy

Approval process: 

The 2009 revised MARP included environmental and social impacts associated with construction, operation and closure of Ankata (Prominent Hill underground mine).

Mining and Rehabilitation Compliance Reports (MARCRs)

Annual MARCRs summarise compliance monitoring activities and are intended to provide evidence that the lease is compliant with regulatory requirements, including achieving all social and environmental outcomes.

Mining and rehabilitation program (MARP) - now Program for environment protection and rehabilitation (PEPR)

Note: Following amendments to the Mining Act 1971 which came into force on 1 July 2011, MARPs will be replaced by Programs for Environment Protection and Rehabilitation (PEPRs). Previously approved MARPs will be deemed to be PEPRs.

Miscellaneous Purpose Licences (MPLs)

The Operations Wellfield Mining and Rehabilitation Program (MARP) Proposal Addendum for a borefield to supply water for the minesite includes a number of small boundary realignments.

Resizing and realignment of Operations Transmission Line MPL's will use standards outlined by this documentation:
