A management team was established for the TEiSA Minerals Program. Achievements included approval of acquisition plans, the design and application of a project ranking system, and the public tender and award of four contracts (value in excess of $800 000) for airborne and ground-based geophysical surveys.
GRAVITY PROGRAMS
Curnamona Province
Gravity data surveys were completed over two areas north of Olary in the Curnamona Province, one to the northwest of Benagerie Ridge and the other to the northeast, adjacent to the South Australia – New South Wales border. A total of 1036 gravity stations were acquired on a 1x1 km grid.
AIRBORNE GEOPHYSICAL SURVEYS
Adelaide Geosyncline
The Flinders Ranges survey by AGSO was completed as part of the National Geoscience Mapping Accord and TEiSA. Data totalling 132 938 line kilometres were acquired over parts of the COPLEY, PARACHILNA, ORROROO and PORT AUGUSTA 1:250 000 map areas. Additional ‘infill’ for tenement holders was flown over areas of special interest.
The Mannum (Kanmantoo) airborne survey included outcrop and covered Kanmantoo Group metasediments in the Mannum – Swan Hill region. Acquisition took place during April 1999, and totalled 15 588 line kilometres, including 200 m infill data for two tenement holders covering almost half of the survey area.
Gawler Craton
The Stuart Shelf (west of Lake Torrens) and Oodnadatta surveys were 56% complete as at 30 June 1999; 30 106 line kilometres had been flown, with 23 641 km remaining. The Oodnadatta survey area lies to the northeast of the Peake and Denison Ranges, and incorporates an area of relatively shallow Palaeoproterozoic basement covered by Mesozoic sediments.
The Southern Gawler Craton surveys over Eyre and Yorke Peninsulas were 90% complete as at 30 June 1999; >74 000 line kilometres had been flown, with 34 634 km remaining. Eight mineral exploration companies participated in the surveys, acquiring detailed infill and extension flight lines.
