About PACE Targeting

As part of PACE 2020’s expanded collaborative program, the South Australian government is launching PACE Targeting, a program that seeks proposals from the minerals and energy exploration community to undertake geophysical surveys within the state and that will be jointly funded by industry and the government.

PACE Targeting embodies a partnership with industry that builds upon previous successful programs such as PACE Drilling Collaborations between PIRSA and Industry and PACE Geochronology.

PACE Targeting 2011 will fund high quality, technically and economically sound projects designed to gather geophysical information in greenfield and economically prospective areas of South Australia.

Call for proposals

The Department of Primary Industry and Resources (PIRSA) is now seeking proposals from industry to undertake cooperative geophysical surveys jointly funded by industry and the government’s PACE 2020 initiative.

Preference will be given to proposals that span multiple tenements, collect information where little is known, test new methodologies in exploration and have a clear focus on identifying new exploration targets.

Project funding, management and reporting

PACE Targeting 2011 provides grant monies for 50% of geophysical survey costs (mobilisation, survey cost and data processing) up to a maximum possible allocation of $75,000 exclusive of GST.

The reports and data from successful projects become open file soon after completion to further aide industry participants (a maximum three (3) month confidentiality is permitted after submission of the final report).

The project proponents undertake management of the projects.

More information about funding, management and reporting is available in the Proposal Submission Guidelines (.pdf 849.1kb)

About PACE

The PACE (Plan for Accelerating Exploration) initiative launched in 2004 was a government initiative developed to ensure South Australia is showcased to the world as a premier destination for resource investment.

The original $22.5 million 5-year initiative aimed to build upon the work of the Resources Industry Task Force and previous government initiatives such as the South Australian Exploration Initiative (SAEI), the Broken Hill Exploration Initiative (BHEI) and the Targeted Exploration initiative, South Australia (TEiSA).  In 2007, PACE was extended by two years and $8.4 million bringing total funding to $30.9 million over 7 years (2004–2011).

Throughout the life of PACE, the South Australian Government has welcomed continual feedback on it’s projects and programs with the intention of ensuring that any subsequent initiatives would be current and relevant as well as building upon the success and momentum PACE has created.

In February 2010, Premier Rann released the policy document ‘Mining in South Australia Policy 2010’.  The main focus of this document was a $10.2 million expansion of the PACE initiative aimed at advancing resource exploration and mining developments in the State –PACE 2020.
