Dr Ian Gould AM

Dr Ian Gould is a geologist by profession, with 40 years experience in the minerals industry in diverse and senior positions, mainly within the CRA/Rio Tinto Group, in which he was Group Executive for Exploration and later for R&D and Managing Director-Australia.

He retired from his executive career in 2000 as Managing Director of the Normandy Mining Group, based in Adelaide and subsequently held a number of non-executive directorships in the industry, currently chairing Toro Energy Limited.

Dr Gould has been active on many government advisory bodies, committees and boards and currently chairs the CSIRO Mineral Resources Sector Advisory Committee, as well as SAMPEG and is a past Chair of the SA Resources Industry Development Board.

He is also a Fellow of the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering and of the AusIMM, of which he is a past President and recipient of the Institute Medal. He is the present Chair of the Board of St Andrew's Hospital, Vice President of the RFDS Central Operations and a member of the Economic Development Board.

Dr Gould is the current Chancellor of the University of South Australia and was awarded an AM in the 2011 Queen's Birthday Honours for services to mining, education and the community.

Mr Robert J Champion de Crespigny AC

Robert J Champion de Crespigny AC is an Australian businessman currently residing in Oxfordshire, England.

Mr de Crespigny graduated from Melbourne University with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1972 and was admitted to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1976. He was a Partner of KMG Hungerford (a predecessor firm of KPMG) from 1977 to 1985. Mr de Crespigny was also the Chairman and Chief Executive of Normandy Mining Limited from 1985, when he founded the company, until 2002 when it merged, with Newmont Mining Corporation. At the time Normandy was Australia’s largest gold producer and a major international gold and base metal company. Upon leaving Normandy, he took on the role of Chairman of the Economic Development Board of South Australia and also sat on the Executive Committee of Cabinet of the South Australian Government.

From June 2000 until July 2004, Mr de Crespigny was the Chancellor of the University of Adelaide. In December 2004 he was awarded a Doctor of the University for his services to the University.

Mr de Crespigny is currently the Chairman of Mineral Securities Limited (formerly Scarborough Minerals plc) in England, a company listed on both the Australian Stock Exchange and the London Stock Exchange Alternative Investment Market. Mr de Crespigny is a Council Member of the Royal Institution of Great Britain and a Member of the Business Advisory Forum and the Development Board of Oxford University’s Said Business School.

In 2002, Mr de Crespigny was awarded the Companion of the Order of Australia Medal for his service to the mining industry, to business and to the community in the areas of cultural preservation and education. In that same year he was also named as South Australian of the Year and South Australian Company Director of the Year.

Mr Hugh M Morgan AC

Hugh Morgan is Chief Executive Officer of First Charnock Pty Ltd. He joined North Broken Hill in 1065, becoming a Director (1971-1976). Hugh was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Western Mining Corporation (1990-2003) and prior to that served as an Executive Officer (1976-1986) and then Managing Director (1986-2003).

Mr Morgan has served as a Director of Alcoa of Australia Limnited (1977-1998 and 2002-2003); a Director of Alcoa Inc. (1998-2001); Member of the Board of the Reserve Bank of Australia (1981-1984 and 1996-2007); Non-Executive Board Member of the CSIRO (1978-1983); President (1981-1983) and Senior Vice-President (2002-2003) of the Minerals Council of Australia (formerly Australian Mining Industry Council); Vice-Chairman (1994-1998) and Chairman (1998-2000) of the International Council on Metals and the Environment; Executive Committee Member on the International Council on Mining and Metals (2001-2002); Memer of the Executive Committee of the Australasian Mineral Industries Research Association (1980-1988); Chairman of the World Gold Council (1989-1991); Member of the Earth Resources Development Council (2006-2009).

Mr Morgan is a member of the Anglo American plc Australian Advisory Board; member of the Lafarge International Advisory Board; Honorary member of the Business Council of Australia; Chairman of the Order of Australia Association Foundation Limited; Trustee Emeritus of the Asia Society New York; Chairman Emeritus of the Asia Society AustralAsia Centre and President of the National Gallery of Victoria Foundation.

Mr Leon A Davis AO

Leon A Davis retired from his position as Chairman of Westpac Banking Corporation in 2007 after 7 years of service on the board. Mr Davis became a director of Rio Tinto Limited in 1994 and of Rio Tinto plc in 1995.

He is a metallurgist and during more than 40 years with the Group held a number of managerial posts around the world, ultimately as chief executive in 1997.

Following his retirement from that post in 2000, he became the Australian based Non-Executive Deputy Chairman of the Group.

Mr Trevor Sykes

Trevor Sykes was one of Australia’s leading finance journalists until his retirement at the end of 2005.

He has been Editor of The Bulletin, Editor-in-Chief of the Australian Business magazine, assistant editor of the Australian Financial Review and Melbourne Bureau Chief of the Australian Financial Review. He is also the creator of the well-known Pierpont column which he wrote – in the guise of a cynical old clubman – for 34 years, and still writes once a year.

Mr Sykes is the author of seven books about Australian financial scandals. He has also won six national awards for finance reporting.

He is currently a director of Mitchell Corporation, the largest trucking company in WA and is Director of the AusTex Oil Ltd. He is also Patron of the Sydney Mining Club.

Mr Paul John Dowd

Paul Dowd is a mining engineer and has a professional mining career spanning more than 40 years, primarily in the private sector, but he also served in the Public Sector as head of the Victorian Mines and Petroleum Departments during the Kennett State Government.

Mr Dowd is Chairman of the Board of the South Australian Resources & Engineering Skills Alliance (RESA) and is a Non-Executive Director of OZ Minerals Limited and Non-Executive Director of Phoenix Copper Limited. He serves as a member of advisory councils and groups, including the CSIRO Minerals Strategic Advisory Committee (MRSAC), the University of Queensland–Sustainable Minerals Institute Board, and is a group member of the Centre for Engineering Leadership and Management (CELM) with Engineers Australia.

He recently resigned as a Non-executive Director of Northgate Australian Ventures Corporation Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of AuRicoGold Inc (Canada) and Advisor to the Board and Management of AuRico, and also recently resigned as a Non-executive Director of Macarthur Coal Limited upon delisting.

Mr Dowd is also a Commissioner for the SA Training and Skills Commission (TaSC).

Mr Dowd was previously Managing Director of Newmont Australia Limited and Vice President Australia and NZ. Prior to the merger with Newmont and Franco-Nevada, he was Group Executive–Operations for Normandy Mining Limited with responsibility for the group's global managed mining interests, including eight Australian operations and four spread over Africa, USA, Europe and Australasia

He is a fellow of the AusIMM, which he joined as a student member in 1965 as a cadet mining engineer in Broken Hill, studying part-time at the WS & LB Robinson College, UniNSW.

Mr Keith R Yates

Keith Yates is a geologist with over 50 years experience in mineral exploration and mine development for a range of metals and minerals throughout Australia and in the Pacific and South-East Asia. He has lived in South Australia for over 40 years during which time he has accumulated a substantial knowledge of the geology and mineral potential of the State.

During his career he has held board and exploration management positions with a number of Australian mining companies. In the 1980s, he held senior positions with the Poseidon Limited group of companies including Executive Director of Australian Development Limited.

He is a Founding Director and a major shareholder of Adelaide Resources Limited which listed on the ASX in 1996. Since the company's listing, it has held significant exploration interests in South Australia where it continues to operate.

Mr Yates is chairman of the South Australian Mining and Petroleum Experts Group and is a past Chairman of the Adelaide branch of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM).

Mr Derek Carter 
MSC, FAusIMM (CP)

Derek Carter is a geologist with over 40 years experience in corporate management, exploration and mining, having worked in Australia and overseas for Billiton (Shell Group of Companies) for 16 years.

For 5 years he was General Manager–Exploration for Burmine Ltd before establishing Minotaur Gold NL in 1993. He formed Minotaur Resources Ltd in 2000 and Minotaur Exploration Ltd in 2005, and was Managing Director of these groups at their inception. He is currently chair of Minotaur Exploration Ltd.

Mr Carter is on the boards of ASX listed companies Mithril Resources Ltd, Toro Energy Ltd and Petratherm Ltd and is Chairman of the latter.

He is also Chairman of the Federal Government’s Minerals Exploration Advisory Group and is a member of the South Australian Government’s Resources Industry Development Board (RIDB) and SAMPEG. He is a former President of the South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy (SACOME) and is a past member of the Australian Gold Council. Mr Carter received the President's award from the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) in 2010 and is a Board member of AusIMM.

In 2003 he was awarded (jointly) Prospector of the Year for the discovery of Prominent Hill and in the same year received a Centenary Medal.

Mr John Roberts

John Roberts is President of the South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy, bringing to the role over 50 years experience in the mineral exploration and mining industries.

Mr Roberts began his career as a geologist, involved in extensive and successful exploration. He progressed to management positions in exploration and production companies including Vice President, Manager and Managing Director of Homestake Gold of Australia Limited in the 1980s. During those years, Mr Roberts guided the company through public listing and increased gold production (from less than 40 000 to over 360 000 ounces per year).

Since 1993, Mr Roberts has been Chairman and Director of a number of exploration and production companies with interests including copper, gold, uranium and nickel. Mr Roberts is currently Chairman of Directors for Adelaide-based companies Mithril Resources Limited and Australasian Gold Limited. He is also Chairman of Rum Jungle Uranium Limited, a Darwin-based uranium exploration company.

Mr Geoff Knight
Chief Executive, Department for Manufacturing, Innovation, Trade, Resources and Energy

Geoff Knight has had a long and distinguished career in the Public Sector, serving in diverse senior policy and leadership positions over three decades.

He is the Chief Executive of the newly formed South Australian Government Department for Manufacturing, Innovation, Trade, Resources and Energy effective 24 October 2011.

Geoff Knight was formerly the Chief Executive of Primary Industries and Resources South Australia (PIRSA), being appointed to this position in 2006.

During his time at PIRSA, he oversaw the emergence of the agency as a key economic force, with its strong industry focus around mining, energy resources, fishing, aquaculture, food, wine and forestry. Through its unique industry-driven approach, his former agency was recognised as a national, and in many cases an international leader, in providing a pro-active investment friendly envitonment. These same approaches will be applied to the new portfolio.

He holds a Bachelor of Science (University of Adelaide), a Bachelor of Social Administration (Flinders University), a Graduate Certificate in Change Management (Australian Graduate School of Management, AGSM) and a Master of Business Administration (Australian Graduate School of Management, AGSM).

Ms Pauline Carr

Pauline Carr has over 20 years experience in the resources sector. She is currently Director, Office Consolidation for Newmont Asia Pacific (previously Normandy Mining Limited), which is part of the global gold mining entity, Newmont Mining Corporation and is managing the consolidation of its Australian offices into a single regional headquarters based in Perth.

Prior to moving to Adelaide and joining Normandy, Ms Carr spent six years with international oil company, Esso Australia Limited in Sydney and worked in its Accounting, Internal Audit, Exploration and Public Affairs Divisions.

Ms Carr completed a Bachelor of Economics at the Australian National University in Canberra in 1983 and a Master of Business Administration at the University of Adelaide in 1993. She is a member of the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants, a Fellow of Chartered Secretaries Australia and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Mr Ross Adler AO

Ross Adler AO was formerly Managing Director of Santos Ltd (1984–2000), Australia's largest onshore oil and gas company, headquartered in Adelaide.

From 1975 to 1984 Mr Adler was Managing Director of Brown & Dureau Ltd, at that time one of Australia's principal merchant traders.

From 1979 to 1984 he held various senior management roles with Australian Paper Manufacturers Ltd, later Amcor, rising to an Executive Director in 1981 and then to Deputy Managing Director.

Mr Kerry Stokes AC

Kerry Stokes’ leadership of the Seven Network caps four decades of his active involvement in the ownership and management of media companies in Australia.

Mr Stokes is the recipient of one of the country’s highest honours, the Order of Australia, and is a former chairman of the National Gallery of Australia.

He is recognised as an honorary fellow of Murdoch University and has been awarded an honorary doctorate of Commerce from Edith Cowan University. Mr Stokes has also been recognised by the Australian Institute of Company Directors for his contribution to economic progress and corporate governance, and his contributions to the community and efforts in not-for-profit organisations.

Mr Stokes was awarded the Rotary Paul Harris Fellow Award by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International in 1994 and holds a Life Membership of the Returned Services League of Australia

Through his private, Australian Capital Equity, Mr. Stokes has broad business interests and investments in a range of major business sectors, including WesTrac. Mr Stokes also has broad interests and investments including property, construction, mining, oil and gas exploration.

Mr Owen L Hegarty

BEc(Hons), FAusIMM

Owen Hegarty has 40 years experience in the global mining industry.

For his achievements and leadership in the mining industry Owen was awarded the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) Institute Medal in 2006 and the G.J. Stokes Memorial Award in 2008.

Mr Hegarty is presently Executive Vice Chairman of Hong Kong listed G-Resources Group Ltd, a gold mining company; and Executive Vice Chairman of CST Mining Group Ltd, a Hong Kong listed copper mining company. He is a Non-Executive Director of Australian Fortescue Metals Group Ltd, a Director of the AusIMM, and a member of a number of Govenrment and Industry advisory groups. He is Founding Patron of CEEC (Coalition of Eco-Efficient Comminution) - a not-for-profit organisation aimed at increasing energy efficiencies in mining and minerals processing.

Mr Hegarty is Chairman of Tigers Realm Minerals, a private Melbourne based mining company growing a diversified mining group. He is a Non-Executive Director of ASX listed Tigers Realm Coal Limited. He is also Chairman of EMR Capital, a private equity investment manager focused on resources.

For 25 years Mr Hegarty worked with the Rio Tinto group where he was Managing Director of Rio Tinto Asia and Managing Director of the Group's Australian copper and gold business. he was the founder and CEO of the Oxiana Ltd Group which grew from a small exploration company to a multi-billion dollar Australia, Asia and Pacific focused base and precious metals producer, developer and explorer. Oxiana was renamed to OZ minerals Ltd following the merger of Oxiana with Zinifex Limited.
